Cadet College Petaro


 Cadet College  Petaro  was  the  second    Cadet College   in  the country  after Hassan Abdal, to  be  established  initially  at   Mirpurkhas  in  1957 and  shifted to its present site at Petaro in   1959. Cadet   College   Petaro   is  residential institution, established at Petaro   on  a   campus  of  about  700 acres. It is located some  two kilometers  off  the  right bank  of  the river indus, 30 kilometers away from  Hyderabad on  Indus  Highway(Jamshoro  Dadu Road) and just two kilometers away from the Cadet College Petaro Railway Station.

Parent's Day

 




Parents Day has a unique significance for cadets. Teacher and parents alike. It is the occasion that strengthens the triangular link; it provides the parents with an opportunity to see for themselves the living conditions, performances and achievements of their sons. Besides through such contacts, parents may be in a position to contribute towards all kinds of improvements, resulting in a happy triangular relationship. This is the day on which, cadets feels proud of playing host to his parents. The college, therefore, holds the parent’s day every year. The function includes presentation of the Principal annual report, award of honors to the cadets, distribution of prizes and display of March Past, P.T, Karate, Gymnastic and Tent-Pegging and finally an Exhibition of Arts, Handicrafts and photographs.

Sports




The college has playing facilities for all the major games like Hockey, Cricket, Foot ball, Basket ball and Athletics. It is mandatory for every cadet to participate in these games. Additionally, the college has the facilities for Volleyball, Squash and Tennis in out-door games and for Badminton, Table Tennis, Billiards and other indoor games.

    Cadet College Petaro is residential institution, established at Petaro on a campus of about 700 acres. Administration and Financing  

 


The college is an autonomous institution administered by a Board of Governors. The Commander Karachi, an Administrative Authority of Pakistan Navy, is ex-officio Chairman of the Board. The Principal is of the rank of a Commodore and Secretary to the Board of Governors. He is responsible for the administration of the college in accordance with the rules laid down by the Board. However, the Government of Sindh is committed to provide the finances to the college for its smooth running.

Mission 





 The college is tasked to train young students of Class VII to Class XII to be potential officers for the Pakistan Armed forces. Cadets, however, are free to join  a career of their own choice. Military training, character building, personality development, excellence in education and inculcation of leadership qualities are essential elements of the training scheme followed at college. The college has since acquired a unique position of prestige, producing a large number of cadets who, over the years, have passed out and made a name for themselves and their Alma Mater as responsible citizens and good professionals, be it in the Army, Navy, Air force, Police, Civil services, Medicines, Engineering, Law, Agriculture, Business, Politics or any other profession that they chose to pursue. The college has thus contributed in providing quality education for the multi dimensional personality development of the students. Our promising cadets have excelled in all fields of practical life at the national level in general and in Sindh, in particular.

The Campus


 

The lay-out of facilities on the campus is functional and according to the best principles of town planning. The staff residences are clustered towards one end which is quite an expanse because all the staff and their families live on the campus. The seven cadet houses, their mess, the stadium and the swimming pool are all located around a large rectangular grassy field. This forms a picturesque hub of cadets living activities. The mosque and the commercial area center are flanked by the staff residences on one side and cadets living areas on the other, thus being easily accessible on both sides. The Sick-bay situated at one corner, provides easy access to the cadets and a private approach for the colony residents. Next to the swimming pool are the playing fields, riding club, the shooting range and the area reserved for gymnastics and the ISSB Village. The salient feature of the campus, however, is the college building which houses the offices, the auditorium, classrooms and the well-equipped Physics,Chemistry, Biology, English Language, Computer, ICT and General Science Laboratories.   

Medical Facility    

 

       

As already mentioned, there is a sick bay looked after by a qualified doctor and competent staff. In addition to the general treatment given to the cadets, preliminary vaccines against Typhoid, Cholera, Tetanus, Hepatitis-B are given. As and when required, cadets are referred to specialist according to their requirements. (Medical, Eye, ENT, Surgical Specialists and Dental Surgeon of the CMH Hyderabad and Liaquat Medical University of Health and Sciences Hospital at Jamshoro or Hyderabad). The expenses for such consultation / treatment are borne by parents and debited to their sons accounts. 

Service Representation

  


 

 (i) The Pakistan Navy has provided the college with the Military Staff required for parade, Military, Physical and Leadership Training. The team is head by an Adjutant and comprises Chief Petty Officers and Petty Officers/ Sailors specialized in various disciplines.
  (ii) The Military Staff, through a chain of command of the cadets, is responsible for maintaining discipline. The highest appointment of the college is Chief Cadet Captain, who is selected from amongst the senior most cadets (Class XII) on the basis of overall best performance in various fields. There is a cadet Captain for each house with senior leading cadets and click cadets under them. Their respective duties and sphere of responsibilities are envisaged in the college standing orders.                                        
  iii)   An ex. Defedar of President ‘s Body Guard has been employed as Instructor to train the cadets in horse riding/tent pegging.

 (i) There are eight hostels at the campus. These are called houses, named after the great personalities of national and regional importance, i.e. Jinnah House, Liaquat House, Ayub House, Latif House, Iqbal House, Muhammad Bin Qasim House, Shahbaz House and Sachal House. Each house accommodates around 110 cadets. (ii) A HouseMaster assisted by two Assistant House Masters manages each house as per college rules and regulations. This team is responsible to prepare the cadets for Inter House Competitions in all the three dimensions, i.e. Academic, Sports and Co-curricular Activities for the General Championship Trophy. (iii) With a view a train young cadets to shoulder responsibilities and to exercise authority, the college has advised a system of Cadet Appointments. Each house has a Cadet Captain, a Senior Leading Cadet, Two Leading Cadets, Two Junior Leading Cadets and two Click Cadets, while the Chairman Honour Committee and the Chief Cadet Captain are the College Appointments.

Principal's Message


PAF PUBLIC SHOOL SARGODHA is an institution looked up to for excellence. Its alumni cherish its slogan: AIM HIGH! Organization of PAF Public School Sargodha



PAF Public School , Sargodha , is a residential institution run on classical public school lines. It prepares boys for the Secondary and Intermediate Examinations held by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Sargodha . The aim is to impart quality education as well as to provide a healthy environment 8that would help produce confident, disciplined and courageous young men possessing a strong character and qualities of Command and Leadership. In order to mould and develop an all round moral and intellectual personality of the young students, an all out attempt is made to achieve a ‘whole man and an officer concept’. The efforts are specially aimed at imbibing in them a spirit of service towards the nation as proud, motivated and fine young gentlemen.

Location



PAF Public School is situated in Sargodha on PAF Road , close to the PAF Base Mushaf. Amidst the numerous lush green playing fields and towering trees, the two story main School Building presents a majestic look. The other buildings comprise a mosque, an auditorium, eight lodging ‘Houses’, a messing block, a canteen and a hospital for students. The green surroundings and the imposing building lend a serene and majestic look to the School. Residential accommodation for the Principal, Vice Principal and the School faculty is located within the School campus.

Staff


Highly qualified, experienced and dedicated teaching staff is engaged round the clock for education and training in the School. To provide effective and efficient supervision, the two faculties, Science and Humanities, are divided into academic departments:

Humanities:



English, Urdu , Pakistan Studies and Islamic Education.


Sciences:



Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Sciences.
In addition, the senior most instructor of each subject heads of department and supervises instruction and deals with other related matters. Physical training and drill of the students is supervised by the physical fitness and drill instructors. The other staff comprises the Administrative Officer. Curriculum


The students are prepared for the Secondary School Certificate and Intermediate Examination conducted by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Sargodha. The following subjects are taught:

(a) Secondary School Certificate Examination

English, Urdu, Islamiat , Pakistan Studies, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science.

Intermediate Examination (Pre-Engineering Group)
English, Urdu, Islamic Studies, Pakistan Studies, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Religious Education


Islamiat is a compulsory subject and the essentials of religion are taught in the classrooms. Motivational talks and prayers in the School mosque amply supplement religious education in the classrooms.

Examinations


The School holds internal examinations to assess the ability of the students and prepare them for the Board Examinations. Progress tests, Send Ups and Pre-Board Examinations is a regular feature of the School schedule in this regard. The parents / guardians are regularly informed of their son’s / ward’s overall performance and attitude. The weak students take extra coaching classes in the evening. However, a student showing consistent poor performance is withdrawn from the School. PAF Public School Sargodha has always produced outstanding results in Board Examinations. The boys take full advantage of the conducive academic atmosphere at the School and are among the top position holders in the Board Examinations.

Daily Schedule



The daily schedule is made with a view to make the best use of the available time. The routine program aims at providing adequate time for the activities that help, shape and develop the students’ personality in accordance with the envisaged aims and objectives. As such an appropriate stress is laid on academic, moral, intellectual, physical and extra-curricular activities.
Games, Physical Training and Drill

With the notion that sports fields are instrumental in preparing young players for their adult roles in the battlefield of life, the School has made sports an essential and integral part of boys’ training. Afternoon games are compulsory for all the students. For this purpose, the School has the facilities of six lush green Football grounds, five Hockey fields, five Basketball courts, one Squash court, one Cricket / Athletics field, one Gymnasium and one Swimming Pool. For indoor games like Table Tennis, Carom board, Chess, and Draft, the facility is provided in each of the eight boarding Houses. Besides, these boys receive training in Karate and Gymnastics as well. They are also given an orientation in drill for their future careers in the armed forces. Friendly Fixtures To inculcate sportsman spirit in the boys and help them expand their circle of friends, the School plays friendly fixtures against the institutions of repute like PAF Public School Lower Topa, Military College Jhelum, Cadet College Hassanabdal, Cadet College Petaro, Aitchison College Lahore and other similar institutions.
Library and Audio-Visual Aids

The School has a well-equipped library manned by a trained librarian and other staff. In addition, a small library has been established in each ‘House” to help the students develop the habit of reading. Modern educational aids like OHPs, Multi Media Projector, etc. are used to make classroom instruction more effective.

Language Lab


To provide the students ample exposure to spoken English, the School has established a well-equipped Language Lab. The boys are exposed to a variety of well-chosen language programs and given enough opportunity to polish their spoken expression under the guidance of trained teachers.
Computer Labs

In order to keep pace with the technological advancement, especially with the boom in Information Technology, the School has established two state of art computer labs. These are equipped with P4 computers, multimedia and round the clock internet access. The boys are encouraged to keep E-mail addresses and are given a sound orientation in Microsoft Office & IT.
House System

Students are accommodated in eight Houses named after famous aircraft like Attacker, Falcon, Fury, Halifax , Mirage, Star fighter, Sabre and Tempest.. A House organizes its own study periods, social functions, excursions, swimming, indoor and outdoor games, etc. Each House is under the charge of a Housemaster who is assisted by an Assistant Housemaster and a Physical Training Instructor (PTI). In order to train students in shouldering responsibility and exercise of authority, there are a number of student appointments. A boy from the senior most entry is made Head boy of the School on his overall performance. Each House has a House Captain who is assisted by the School Prefect and two House Prefects. House Captain is a student in charge of the various House activities. These activities go a long way in promoting team work and spirits de corps. Also, to inculcate competitive spirit and a sense of achievement, Inter House competitions are held in various games / activities viz all outdoor sports, (hockey, football, basketball), athletics, drill, swimming, qira’at, debates, current affairs and cleanliness. Separate shields and trophies are awarded to the winner of each competition. The Quaid-i-Azam Trophy is awarded to the overall Champion House.

Medical


For quick, round the clock medical care, the School has a hospital headed by an Air Force doctor with the necessary staff to assist him. For further specialized treatment, the boys are sent to the PAF Hospital adjacent to the PAF Base, Mushaf where they are admitted in the Officer’s Ward. The PAF Hospital is an updated facility with almost all specialists available round the clock. To guard against epidemics, vaccination and inoculation is carried out periodically. Students are medically examined in all respects, and a proper individual health record is maintained. The School also has an isolation ward for the segregation of patients suffering from infectious diseases. In case a student needs an operation, all out efforts are made to inform the parents / guardians. However, if there is no time to inform them, such students are operated upon without any delay. The Parents / guardians of students are required to submit a written permission for emergent, lifesaving surgery. In case of an emergency the authority rests with the Principal.

Uniform


It is mandatory for students to be in the prescribed dress during school hours. They are not permitted to wear private clothes or shoes. The uniforms / shorts / track suits are provided to the students by the School.

School Mess


The School Mess is run by a committee presided by the Principal. Students are also associated with the management of the Mess. One representative from each House is a member of the Mess Committee that meets regularly to draw up the menu and discuss ways and means of improving the Mess. Meals include breakfast, long break (tea / snacks / milk-shake), lunch and dinner. Seasonal fruit at lunch and sweet dishes at dinner are essential items of a wholesome and balanced diet.
Clubs

The School offers the students a wide variety of extra curricular activities and the students can participate in any of them according to their individual interest and inclination. Some of the major clubs include: Internet Club, Science Club, Wood Work Club, Clay Modeling Club, Arts and Music Club, etc.


Recreational Activities



Picnics are arranged regularly. The boys are taken to various recreational spots around Sargodha . Also, a camping trip is annually made to Lower Topa , Murree by the senior most entry. Besides these excursions, various educational visits are also a part of training schedule at the School.


Indemnity Bond for Gliding Training


Parents / guardians are required to submit a gliding training Indemnity Bond on initial joining of their sons / wards.

School Magazine


The School Magazine is published annually in two sections (English / Urdu) and contains articles and essays written by the students. Every student is given a copy on payment.
Commemoration of National Days
The boys stay in the School on National Days like Pakistan Day, Iqbal Day, Defence Day, Quaid-e-Azam Birthday and Death Anniversary. Lectures / Seminars are held on these occasions in which the entire School participates.

Terms And Holidays


The academic year is divided into two terms: 1st Term : January to May 2nd Term : August, to December At the end of each term specified holidays are allowed. Also, the boys with excellent performance in the examination are sent on recreation trips as a reward. Students are not permitted to stay in the School premises during the holidays. All traveling expenses are to be borne by the parents. It is also the responsibility of the parents / guardians to make the traveling arrangements for their sons / wards.

Leave


Leave, other than the holidays authorized by the School, is not granted except in exceptional circumstances as per policy.
Visits
The students are permitted to receive visitors once a month on scheduled Sundays during the term. The visit dates are communicated to the parents at the beginning of the term.
Correspondence
Parents / guardians seeking any information regarding their son / ward must address all correspondence only to the Principal or the Vice Principal. The School has the facility of a PCO. The boys can make calls to their parents / guardians on payment. For an emergency message the parents may contact the respective Housemaster at his residence phone number.

Post Office
The Post Office facility is available at the School.

SCHOOL RULES


Students are NOT permitted to keep the following:
Transistors, video games and electric appliances.
Unauthorized medicines.
Money (other than authorized pocket money).
Valuables.
Students guilty of the following offences will be expelled.
Cheating, lying, stealing and any other immoral conduct.

Keeping fire-arms or knives of large size, etc.

Continuously giving a poor performance in academics.

Medical Examination


(a) The students will be required to undergo an annual medical examination by the School Medical Officer during the five year stay at PAF Public School , Sargodha . Medically unfit students will be discharged.

(b) Medical Examination by CMB will be held during the final year. Only Fit students will appear before the ISSB.

Matric

(a) After completion of Matric, only those obtaining First Division (Grade A & B) shall be retained for further studies up to FSc.

(b) After F Sc, a student fulfilling the required criteria for joining the PAF will be permitted to join PAF Academy Risalpur for professional and flying training.

Military College Jhelum



Military College Jhelum (MCJ) is the oldest military institution of its kind in Pakistan. Named as King George Royal Indian Military School, it was founded at Sarai Alamgir on the 3rd of March 1922, and started functioning three years later in 1925. It was organized as a residential school for the sons of Muslim soldiers with the object of producing educated rank and file for the British Indian Army units. In rare cases, some talented students could be endorsed for the grant of commission through Kitchner College Nowgong. During the World War II, the school underwent structural reforms. It was organized as a College for training potential officers for the army.
With the creation of Pakistan, this institution took further strides both in scope and service. It was restructured as a quality public school and the largest single feeder for the Pakistan Military Academy. Renamed as Military College Jhelum in 1956, it was commissioned to pursue the course of academic excellence and personality grooming. The College has served the Nation with spirit of commitment. Its alumni have contributed to the national cause with unwavering devotion. The College Roll of Honour radiates full with the names of martyrs, heroes and senior officers in all echelons of civilian and military establishments. Till 1st April 2013, the College has had, to its credit 1 Nishan-e-Haider, Major Mohammad Akram Shaheed, 48 Sitara-i-Jurrat, 3 Tamgha-i-Jurrat, 1 Tamgh-i-Shujaat, 4 Military Cross and 15 Imtiazi Asnad. 34 Alamgirians have embraced Shahadat. List of the distinguished Alamgirians includes The Ex-Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee General (R) Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Air Chief Marshal (R) Zulfiqar Ali Khan, Ex-Chief of Naval Staff Admiral (R) Abdul Aziz Mirza, NI(M), General (R) Muhammad Yusaf Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, HI, HI(M), 66 General Officers, over 100 Brigadiers, over 2000 Colonels / Lieutenant Colonels and large number of highly placed officers in the civil. The performance of the Alamgirians at Pakistan Military Academy is also laudable. In each course the Alamgirians performed exceedingly well. So far (Till 126 PMA Long Course) 35 Alamgirians have won the distinguished Sword of Honour. Military College Jhelum is an English medium institution, running classes from VIII to XII for 560 cadets. It is located on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road, beside the town of Sarai Alamgir. The campus is spread over about 170 acres of area and affords sufficient open space for lawns and play grounds, cadet houses and officers residences.

Induction System Of College


A.    Main entry to the college is in 8th class. The bulk of seats are offered to the sons of the army personnel only, against their specified quota. However, a limited number of seats are available for the sons of remaining categories of defence services personnel and civilians to compete on open merit.

Eligibility:


Following students are eligible to apply for admission:
The students studying in class VII or VIII. However the candidate must have passed class VII at the time of admission to the College.
Should be between 12 and 14 years of age on 1st April of the year of admission. (Waiver up to 90 days is admissible)
The candidates must be medically FIT.
Submission Of Applications:
For getting admission in 8th class, the College Prospectus will be available from 15th   July of each year. Following procedure is adopted for submission of applications:
a.   Application for admission must be submitted on the prescribed admission form appended to the prospectus.
b.    Each application for admission must be accompanied by a crossed postal order / bank draft drawn on Habib Bank Limited Sarai Alamgir for the amount mentioned in the Admission Form as registration fee in favour of the Commandant Military College Jhelum. THE FEE IS NON REFUNDABLE.
c.   Entries in the Application Form must be based on correct information. All entries will be subjected to scrutiny and verification. False information by a candidate noticed at any stage of his stay at the college, will render him liable to disciplinary action / withdrawal with payment of training charges.
d.  The Application Form, dully filled in, should be sent direct to the Commandant by designation, NOT BY NAME.
e.  The Application Form must be accompanied by three self addressed envelops, duly stamped.
f.   Last date for submission of application is advertised through the press in July / Aug each year and also given in the admission form appended to the prospectus. Late Fee will be charged on the applications received after the due date. Rates of late fee are given in the admission form.

Written Test:


The written test is given in the following subjects:
English
Mathematics and General Science
Urdu and Islamiat (Pakistan Studies for non-Muslims)
The results will be communicated only to those candidates who will make the requisite merit for the next phase that means the interview. Failures are also intimated after the final selection is over.
Intelligence& Interview: 
Candidates who qualify the written test are called for the intelligence test / interview at the following stations:
Jhelum

Lahore

Rawalpindi

Peshawar

Multan

Hyderabad

Karachi

Quetta

Subject to the availability of suitable number of candidates at a particular Centrex. Only those candidates are interviewed who qualify the intelligence test.

Medical Examination:


The candidates are medically examined at CMH / MH nearest to their home station.

Final Selection:


The Final Selection is made on the overall merit achieved by the candidate in the written test, interview and intelligence test. Mere passing the test does not entitle a candidate to admission. (Results are confidential. Answer scripts, marks obtained, merit or position will not be shown / conveyed to the parents / guardians. Any correspondence or communication in this regard, will be undesirable)

The Rules And Regulation

Cadets are not allowed to keep the following items with them. 

Musical instruments, radio, walkman-set, cassette player, video games, electric appliances, heater and cell phones etc.  
Money (more than the authorised pocket money) 
Unauthorised medicines / drugs 
Valuables 
Weapons of any kind  
Cigarettes 
Undesirable printed material 
Explosive / combustible material

On various discipline cases like overstaying leave, bunking and other serious offences, the cadets may be fined upto to Rs. 5000/-  
  

Withdrawal / Discharge:

  
For withdrawal on academic and disciplinary grounds, following policy is in vogue: 
  

a. Academic:

Failing in the annual examination . 
Failing in two successive terminal examinations. 
Not showing satisfactory progress in studies. 
  
Note: Depending on the causal account of educational weakness, the failures may be allowed an additional chance through relegation or provisional promotion subject to decision by the College Council. 
  

b. Discipline:


Cheating in Exams.  
Cheating in any other form is also cognizable and may warrant discharge of cadet from MCJ depending on nature, gravity and circumstances of the case.  
Insulting any officer / staff  
Committing theft  
Grave immoral conduct i.e. willful attempt or actual conduct of unnatural kind  
Physical violence or attempt thereof resulting in grievous injury or having the potential to cause such an injury  
Repetitive / prolonged absence (without leave from the College)  
Any immoral / undesirable / unbecoming conduct while on leave  
Watching blue / nude movies inside / outside the College (on walking out, etc).  
Willful / serious damage to govt property.  
Instigating other cadets or acting as a kind of ring leader to violate / undermine the College policies / rules / orders wherein good order and discipline of institution is threatened / compromised.  
Any collective / group activity which is illegal / unauthorized and tends to undermine / compromise the good atmosphere of the College / state of discipline.  
Possession / use of drugs / intoxicants / smoking.  
Any other act which is dishonourable and below the dignity / moral / social standards of conduct expected from a cadet of MCJ.  
Failure to come upto desired standard of education.  
Failing in 3 or more subjects in a final exam.  
Getting B or lower grade in Matric exam.  
Repetitive bunking and smoking.  
     

Note: The College will take all possible steps / measures for the safety and security of the cadets. However, the College will not be held responsible for any illness, injury, accident, disability or death of any cadet during his stay at the college

Alamgirian Association


This is an association of old boys of MCJ. The aim of this association is to maintain contact and develop better relations with old friends and also maintain a linkage with their alma matter. It has an executive committee and regional offices in almost all major cities of the country. These associations hold meetings annually or biennially. Executive Committee usually meets once a year. The senior most serving Alamgirian is Chairman Alamgirian Association and next Senior or suitable officer is requested to act as Vice Chairman of Alamgirian Association. The Present Chairman of Alamgirian Association is Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, NI (M), HI, COAS and Vice Chairman is Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani, HI(M) while the General Secretary is Col (R) Ijaz Ahmed Raffi.
